Stay in the know with MK and the CPPJ - communication is a priority!

Updated: Jul 12

Update: Click here to share your communication preferences with me!

Everyone has had frustrating experiences with poor communication – whether your service appointment is delayed or you were unaware of a major interruption to your daily commute. In my experience, many people are unaware of what the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury does (or can do) for them!

If I have the honor of being elected District 8’s next police juror, I pledge to prioritize communication. And I want that to go both ways. I hope to inform you about happenings in our district, city and state, but also I want to hear from you! The door will always open to express your questions, comments, and concerns.

What are we missing?

The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury does great work. But too few people know about it.

  • Did you know the police jury meets twice each month? Meetings usually happen on the first and third Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. The yearly calendar for 2023 is here.

  • Did you know you can view CPPJ meeting agendas in advance? They're located here on the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury website. These agendas are available at least 24 hours prior to each meeting. At this same link, you can also find the minutes for previous meetings, dating back to 1841!

  • An engaged constituency is important for the future of our community. According to the International Republican Institute, civic engagement is a continuous cycle that includes both leaders and citizens. When citizens share their feedback and new laws are created because of it, trust in the government grows!

How can we improve communication?

Some of the things I plan to implement, if elected, are:

  • Regularly update residents about upcoming police jury meetings, including the agenda. I also hope to hear from District 8 residents about issues that matter so I can represent them well at each meeting.

  • Residents can expect social media updates about key issues, like road projects and important tools like the CalcaShout Emergency Alert System.

  • I plan to maintain this website to ensure constituents have a "home base" from which to draw information.

I have lots of ideas, but as always, I welcome your suggestions. One of the most important things a police juror can do is listen to YOU!
